Angelina Jolie is opening up about one of the most difficult times in her life, the high-profile divorce with ex-husband Brad Pitt
The 44-year-old actress called her split from the actor “a complicated moment,” telling French magazine Madame Figaro, “I didn’t recognize myself anymore.”
The Hollywood star went on to reveal how much their 2016 breakup took a toll on her. “I felt a deep and genuine sadness, I was hurt,” she said. “I think it was at the end of my relationship with Brad and then when we separated. It was complicated, I didn’t recognize myself anymore, and I’d become, how do I say this, smaller, insignificant, even if I didn’t show it.” “On the other hand, it was interesting to reconnect with this humility and even this insignificance I was feeling. Maybe this is what being human is in the end…”
The actress also said, “I do not know about destiny, but I’m certain that I’m in transition, and this is a homecoming, I’m coming back to myself. Because I was a little lost.”
An unnamed source told Us Weekly that the “Maleficent” lead star did not want to marry her ex-husband. Jolie, allegedly, felt that Pitt pressured him to walk down the aisle and say her wedding vows. These claims went out after the mom-of-six, reportedly, said that she “will never get married again.”
Jolie and Pitt shocked their fans with a divorce announcement in September 2016. Citing irreconcilable differences, the American actress initiated the split and requested primary custody of their six children, namely: Maddox, 16, Pax, 14, Sahara, 13, Shiloh, 11, and twins, Vivienne and Knox, 9.
Angelina Jolie is currently busy traveling around the world promoting her new film Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil, and as per usual, she’s turning things into a family affair. For her red carpet in Japan on Wednesday, she was joined by her oldest son Maddox Jolie-Pitt, making it his first appearance since he began college.
